Saturday 26th April: Herne Bay station guided History Tour, 2pm

 

Join local railway historian and Southeastern railway employee Mark Jones, on a guided history tour of Herne Bay railway station.  The tour will be accompanied by historic photographs and stories from the past.  This tour will cover public areas only and is expected to take approximately 30 minutes.

This event is free of charge, but donations towards the Seaside Museum would be greatly appreciated.  Meeting point is the booking hall.  Please arrive promptly, as the tour will start at 11am.

I'm delighted to be working with  Southeastern Railway , The Seaside Museum , Herne Bay, and  Whitstable Museum , to bring you two exhibitions celebrating 200 years of railway history and development, from The Canterbury & Whitstable Railway being given Royal Assent, and the first passenger train on the Stockton & Darlington Railway, to the modern day. There will be a host of associated events including history walks, guided tours, documentary screenings, heritage walks, and cycle rides incorporating  Crab & Winkle Line Trust ,  Spokes East Kent Cycle Group , and  East Kent Model Railway Society . Our events will start with the opening of our three month Herne Bay and Kent Coast Railway 200 exhibition, at the Seaside Museum from 12th April.

Herne Bay exhibition: 12th April to 19th July

Celebrating 200 years of rail travel. Whitstable exhibition: 5th June - 26th July

On the 10th June 1825, an Act of Parliament to construct the Canterbury & Whitstable Railway recieved Royal Assent. Come and discover the history of the first railway to carry passengers by steam hauled trains as part of a regular service.  Plus a special feature on the Whitstable Town station.
