I'm delighted to be working with Southeastern Railway , The Seaside Museum , Herne Bay, and Whitstable Museum , to bring you two exhibitions celebrating 200 years of railway history and development, from The Canterbury & Whitstable Railway being given Royal Assent, and the first passenger train on the Stockton & Darlington Railway, to the modern day. There will be a host of associated events including history walks, guided tours, documentary screenings, heritage walks, and cycle rides incorporating Crab & Winkle Line Trust , Spokes East Kent Cycle Group , and East Kent Model Railway Society . Our events will start with the opening of our three month Herne Bay and Kent Coast Railway 200 exhibition, at the Seaside Museum from 12th April.
On the 10th June 1825, an Act of Parliament to construct the Canterbury & Whitstable Railway recieved Royal Assent. Come and discover the history of the first railway to carry passengers by steam hauled trains as part of a regular service. Plus a special feature on the Whitstable Town station. OO Gauge Models For the duration of our Railway 200 exhibition at the Seaside Museum, Herne Bay, a selection of used OO gauge models are available to purchase ftom the museum shop. Many of the models are suitable for Kentish layouts including many Kent wagons and WWI models. Most of the trains and locomotives were purchased new and have never or hardly been used.
